New Water Ways expanded its activities to China!
With fresh project funding from JPI Urban Europe and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) we started expanding our stormwater research to the cities of Suzhou (China) and Birmingham (UK). Under the lead of Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (CEH) and Institute of Urban Environment (Xiamen, CN) and in cooperation with the University of Oslo, University of Surrey (UK), Earthwatch (UK) and Tsinghua University (Beijing, CN) we started a project called
“Designing Sponge Cities through Innovation, Policy, Health and Environmental Research” (DEsCIPHER)
In the DEsCIPHER-project we will amongst other things
- apply participatory mapping to survey preferences related to planning and design of blue-green infrastructure in parks
- Study how climate change adaptation and here especially stormwater management by open nature-based solutions are considered in city planning and urban governance in Oslo, Suzhou and Birmingham
- Assess use- and non-use values of selected NBS in at least 2 case-study cities
- Assess the potential for business engagement for different types of NBS and explore new financing mechanisms
We will gradually announce master topics or suggestions for internship projects related to this project. Please check here!
